About the name. From cupel, the small porous vessel used to assay ore. Heat and air leave the precious metal behind. The product assays messy documents the same way.
Cupelin is an independent company. This site describes Cupelin’s product. Rahul Mehta founded the kiln in April 2024 and remains CEO.

Founder and CEO
Built document systems for a payments ops desk, then spent a diligence week rebuilding tables by hand. Started Cupelin in Oakland in April 2024. Still reads a sample of every eval set before a model ships.
Head of Applied Vision
Ten years on layout models. Led table recovery at a large OCR lab before joining in 2024. Owns Parse 2026.06 and the nested-header work that shipped 4 August 2026.
Head of Inference
Serves batch and realtime from the same graph. Came from a private-cloud ML platform. Owns the 41.2 ms median digital parse and the EU-West queue that delayed 18 minutes on 11 June 2026.
Head of Solutions
Runs Studio with design partners. Former diligence analyst. Writes the invoice and binder recipes in the docs. First reply on Foundry Slack is her desk or the TAM on Private fire.
Forward-deployed engineering
VPC and air-gap installs. Sits with legal on residency maps. Named TAM for Private fire tenants that ask for a person in the room when a kiln review happens.
Security and trust
Encryption, key custody, and the trust packet. Publishes subprocessors in-app. Will publish a SOC 2 report when the 2026 audit cycle closes. Until then, request the packet below.

Journal
A cupel is a small porous vessel. In fire assay, lead and dross soak into the clay. A bead of precious metal stays behind. That is the product metaphor. Documents arrive full of layout noise. The job is to keep the values you can book, cite, or extract, and to show where they sat on the page.
Rahul wrote this the week the Oakland kiln opened. The cross-section on this page is the same drawing that sat on the first Studio canvas.
A table is a promise about alignment. Parse 2026.06 treats nested headers as parent boxes so a later extract can cite the column, even when the cell itself is empty. Mira’s note in the changelog is the short version. The long version is that reading order is a legal object once a customer books a number from it.
No parse model leaves the kiln without kiln-ap-88 and a held-out forty. Exact field match is the gate. v14 scored 94.2% against v13. Priya will hold a pipeline if a footer tax line drifts. Evals catch regressions before a customer’s night job.

Legal

We process documents to provide the service. Customer files stay customer data. We store file bytes, parse blocks, extract fields, job metadata, and account emails for as long as the workspace is open, then 30 days after deletion unless a law requires a longer hold.
Account data includes name, work email, company, billing address, and page volume. Kiln notes subscriptions store only the work email you submit. Contact and trust-packet forms store name, email, company, volume, and deploy choice so Rahul and Asha can reply.
Subprocessors listed in-app. As of 13 August 2026 those are: Amazon Web Services (US-West-2, EU-West-1) for compute and object storage; Stripe for card billing on Assay and Foundry; Resend for transactional mail from [email protected]. Private fire air-gap customers may run with zero Cupelin-hosted subprocessors on the data plane.
We do not sell personal information. We do not train foundation weights on customer files unless you opt into a named eval program in writing. You may request export or deletion from [email protected]. We reply within 30 days.

Effective 2 April 2026. These terms govern use of Cupelin’s API, Studio, and websites. By creating a workspace you agree to them. Governing law: California. Venue: Alameda County.
Cupelin grants a non-exclusive license to call the API and use Studio for your internal business. You will not resell raw model weights. You may build a product that calls Cupelin, including a legal or insurance application, if your customers’ files remain your customer data under this contract.
Fees follow the list prices on the pricing page unless an order form says otherwise. Assay is $149 per month with 15,000 included pages at $0.012 extra. Foundry is $790 per month with 120,000 included pages at $0.008 extra, or $672 per month billed annually. Private fire is $4,800 per month with 2,000,000 included pages at $0.004 extra, or $4,080 per month billed annually. VPC on Foundry is $1,200 per month. Service errors do not bill. Unsupported files after retries do.
Service credits for a month below 99.9% availability on parse and extract are 10% of that month’s subscription, applied to the next invoice. Credits are the sole remedy for downtime.
Cupelin’s models propose and validate structure. They do not execute a real tool, move money, or file a claim. You remain responsible for downstream actions taken on extract output.
Either party may terminate for convenience on 30 days’ notice. Upon termination we delete customer files within 30 days except for billed invoice records. Confidentiality survives 3 years. Limitation of liability: 12 months of fees paid, except for willful misconduct or a data incident caused by Cupelin’s failure to encrypt.
